Eat The Cookie

It’s 7:40 on a Thursday morning and I am eating a cookie for breakfast. This happens most Thursday mornings, and why not? My husband and I have a regular kung fu lesson on Thursday mornings at 6:30 am. This means waking up at 5:10 am and leaving the house at 5:50 am, at the latest. (Actually, this seems luxurious after years of waking at 4:35 am for 5:30 am class three times per week.) But I do not like to eat before the first workout of the morning. I just want coffee, lots of coffee. So once we are done with our lesson, I am pretty hungry.

Chinese hospitality dictates that a host always offers some food to guests. So my instructor always offers us something to eat when we go to his house for lessons. Generally, he offers cookies, although often there are tangerines or dried apricots as well. So, a cookie for breakfast? Sure, because I wouldn’t want to seem rude.
