Why?

Alarm goes off at 4:35 a.m. Groggy. Body groans, sore, maybe hurting a bit. Pull up and out of bed. Stiff-legged walk down the stairs. Make coffee. Feed cats. Check email. Attend to bodily functions. Now 4:50 a.m. Upstairs again. Insert contact lenses into gritty eyes. Quick mirror check. Strip off bed clothes. Check weight. Put on Wudang Longmen t-shirt, black gee pants, athletic socks, shoes, sweat-shirt. Back downstairs. Pour remaining coffee into plastic cup. Mix vitamin and protein powders into plastic container and add water. Grab purse. Fish keys from the bottom. Hit the door, stumble down porch stairs, while balancing coffee and clutching vitamin water. Get in car, turn ignition, adjust radio, back out of driveway. 5:10 a.m. On the street, first intersection, always more cars than you might think for the hour. On the other side of the first intersection, stop sign, and I think: “Why am I doing this?” Answer: “Because this is who you are.” This is you as a fully realized human being. Stop asking stupid questions and proceed.
